Optical Tilt-Shift Photography What is optical Tilt-Shift photography?
Optical Tilt-Shift photography is through the use of optical lens, that get us the images of corrected perspective. A popular Tilt-Shift technique used is on Miniature Faking and many photographers adore this creative effect.
Miniature Faking is a creative method where the actual scene is mimic into one that looks like set in a toy structure. Everything within the given frame is made toy-like and small.
Imagine Lego advertisement where every subject looks like a toy.
While this miniature faking can be done through image-editing software like Photoshop, optical tilt-shift is unlike that. Even though we are using digital camera like DSLR camera or Mirrorless camera, we are using Tilt-Shift lens, which ,make it optical.
Digital Tilt-Shift photography is images digitally created and edited to simulate Tilt-Shift effect. While this seems more simple, optical tilt-shift lens offers you the first impression to take a picture, unlike digital tilt-shift where the picture is set, leaving us to edit the picture.
So unless you have a pre-plan setting to be Tilt-Shift edited, and you are comfortable with Photoshop, then digital
Tilt-Shift photography will work for you.
There are some desktop Tilt-Shift software and online Tilt-Shift makers that are able to do the same. But do remember the effect and mimic may not be as realistic as we want them to be.
The decision remains yours to favor optical or digital
